Chapter 2: The House Remembers

Chapter 2: The House Remembers
Richard spent the entire night searching the mansion.
Every room held another secret.
The storage closet where Emily had slept.
The hidden security cameras.
The locked cabinet filled with letters Emily had written to her father.
None of them had ever been mailed.
Richard opened the first letter with trembling hands.
Dear Dad...
I don't know if you forgot me, but I still wait for you every day.
The next letter.
I miss when you used to call me your princess.
Another.
If I disappear someday... I hope you remember I tried to be good.
Richard broke down.
He had built an empire worth hundreds of millions.
Yet he had failed to protect the only person who truly mattered.
The next morning, Victoria sat confidently with her attorney.
She believed money could solve everything.
Then Richard entered the room.
Behind him stood police investigators.
A child welfare officer.
And the family attorney carrying a thick folder.
Richard placed every unopened letter onto the table.
"The cameras recorded everything."
Victoria's smile vanished.
The investigators quietly informed her she was under investigation for child abuse, unlawful confinement, emotional cruelty, and financial fraud involving family assets.
As she was escorted toward the front door, she looked back at Emily.
"You ruined everything."
Emily answered softly.
"No."
"You ruined it the day you stopped seeing me as a child."
The mansion doors closed behind Victoria.

For the first time in years...
