Chapter 2: The Hidden Cameras

Chapter 2: The Hidden Cameras
Richard slowly walked toward the enormous television mounted on the wall.
"You all assumed I was too weak to notice anything."
He smiled sadly.
"I noticed everything."
He opened a leather folder.
Inside were photographs.
Bank transfers.
Medical reports.
Audio transcripts.
Daniel's face drained of color.
"You searched my office?"
Richard shook his head.
"I built that office."
He pointed toward the chandelier.
"And I installed every camera in this house twenty years ago."
Margaret gasped.
"You spied on your own family?"
"I protected my legacy."
Richard inserted a flash drive.
The screen lit up.
Everyone watched in horror.
Video after video appeared.
Margaret insulting me while Daniel remained silent.
Sophia—my sister-in-law—pinning me to the kitchen floor.
Daniel whispering...
"If she loses the baby, we can always have another."
The room exploded with horrified silence.
I burst into tears.
Richard never looked away from the screen.
"There."
He paused the recording.
"That sentence."
He looked directly at Daniel.
"Repeat it."
Daniel couldn't.
His lips shook uncontrollably.
Richard continued.
"I spent forty years building an empire."
"I believed one day my son would inherit it."
He closed the laptop.
"I was wrong."
Then he turned toward me.
"Emma."
"I owe you an apology."
"I invited a monster into your life."
Tears rolled down my cheeks.
Richard reached into his jacket.
He removed a sealed envelope.
"My attorneys prepared this yesterday."
Daniel frowned.
"What is that?"
Richard smiled.
"My new will."
Daniel's breathing stopped.

"So listen carefully..."
"Everything changes tonight."
