Chapter 3: The Wedding They All Remembered

Chapter 3: The Wedding They All Remembered

One year later...

The same ballroom looked completely different.

There were no crystal walls covered in luxury flowers.

No celebrity guests.

No television cameras.

Instead, hundreds of elderly parents filled the room.

Every seat had been reserved for mothers and fathers supported by the Carter Foundation.

Diane walked into the ballroom wearing a simple blue dress.

She looked healthier.

Happier.

As she admired the decorations, Ethan approached with a smile.

"This celebration isn't for me."

"It's for you."

She looked confused.

Then the large screen lit up.

Photographs filled the room.

Diane carrying groceries through snow.

Diane sewing Ethan's school uniform late at night.

Diane waiting outside his college classroom because she couldn't afford transportation home.

Every sacrifice she had hidden from the world.

The audience stood together.

One by one.

They applauded.

Not politely.

But with tears in their eyes.

Ethan walked onto the stage.

"When I was young, I believed heroes wore uniforms."

"I was wrong."

"My hero wore an old apron."

"And she never asked for applause."

He turned toward Diane.

"Mom..."

"You spent your entire life making sure I could stand."

"Today..."

"It's my turn to make sure the world sees you."

The room erupted into a standing ovation.

Diane cried as Ethan embraced her.

Outside the ballroom, reporters waited for a statement about Victoria Sterling.

Ethan simply smiled.

"I don't wish her failure."

"I hope one day she learns the lesson my mother taught me."

"Respect is worth more than wealth."

As mother and son walked out together beneath the evening sky, neither of them looked back.

Some weddings create a marriage.

This one created something even stronger.

A son who finally honored the woman who had given him everything.

The End.
