The priest quietly closed the Bible.
"There will be no wedding today."
No one argued.
The bride slowly removed her veil.
She looked at her father with tears running down her cheeks.
"How many lies have you told me?"
Richard said nothing.
Silence became his confession.
Suddenly another voice echoed from the back of the church.
"Not all of us stayed silent."
An elderly lawyer stepped forward.
He had served the family for over forty years.
"I was afraid," he admitted.
"I let Richard convince me that exposing the truth would destroy the family."
He handed the old man a sealed file.
It contained the original will.
Emily's name had never been removed.
Neither had her child's.
The inheritance Richard had controlled for decades had never legally belonged to him alone.
The groom quietly walked toward the bride.
"You don't have to marry me today."
She nodded.
"I couldn't celebrate while my family is breaking apart."
Instead of exchanging vows, she crossed the aisle.
She stopped before the woman in white.
Then, in front of everyone, she embraced her.
"I'm sorry...

For the first time since entering the church, the young woman smiled through her tears.
