Chapter 2: The Camera That Never Blinked

Chapter 2: The Camera That Never Blinked

"I didn't do this!" Marissa shouted.

But her voice no longer sounded convincing.

Daniel stared at her.

"Noah said you put something inside."

"He was hallucinating!"

Evelyn quietly pulled out her phone.

"Actually... he wasn't."

She opened a video.

"I installed a small nursery camera in Noah's bedroom after he woke up screaming every night."

Marissa's eyes widened.

The recording began.

It showed Noah asleep.

Minutes later, Marissa entered the room carrying a medical supply bag.

She gently lifted the edge of the fresh cast.

Then she inserted the plastic capsule before resealing the padding.

She leaned close to Noah's ear.

"No one believes little liars."

She smiled.

"When you beg for help tomorrow, they'll think you're crazy."

The video ended.

The silence inside the hospital room became unbearable.

Daniel couldn't breathe.

His knees nearly gave out.

Every nightmare.

Every unexplained bruise.

Every panic attack.

Every accusation Noah had made...

Had been true.

He slowly walked toward his son.

"I'm so sorry."

Noah didn't answer.

He simply burst into tears.

Daniel wrapped both arms around him, sobbing harder than the little boy.

Across the room, two hospital security officers stepped beside Marissa.

"You'll need to come with us."

She struggled.

"You can't arrest me!"

One detective had already arrived after the doctor reported suspected child abuse.

"We're not arresting you because of the insects."

He held up the phone.

"We're arresting you because you recorded yourself committing felony child abuse."

The handcuffs clicked shut.
