For the first time in her life, Rebeca Alcázar felt fear.
Her elegant composure vanished as she stared at the message on Octavio's phone.
The District Attorney's Office already has the files.
"Impossible," she whispered.
Valeria slowly lowered the remote control onto the hospital bed.
"It was never stored here," she said quietly. "The moment I stopped breathing normally, the system uploaded everything."
Sebastián looked between his wife and his mother.
"What system?"
Valeria met his eyes.
"For the last eight months, I've been documenting every threat your family made against me."
She nodded toward the smoke detector.
"The camera wasn't the only recorder."
Seconds later, loud footsteps echoed through the hallway.
Hospital security arrived first.
Behind them came investigators from the Financial Crimes Division and prosecutors carrying official warrants.
"Mrs. Rebeca Alcázar?"
The lead investigator stepped forward.
"You are under investigation for conspiracy, coercion, unlawful imprisonment, document fraud, and attempted kidnapping of a newborn."
Rebeca laughed.
"You have no idea who you're dealing with."
The investigator calmly replied,
"We know exactly who you are."
He held up a warrant bearing the seal of the District Attorney.
"And that's why we're here."
Octavio quietly tried to slip out of the room.
Two officers stopped him before he reached the elevator.
Dr. Salgado attempted to destroy medical files from a nearby computer.
