Chapter 2: The Truth Hidden for Six Years

Chapter 2: The Truth Hidden for Six Years
The little girl led him to a quiet neighborhood nearly an hour away.
Nothing about the small house resembled the luxurious life Emma once knew.
Paint peeled from the walls.
The garden was overgrown.
Children's toys rested on the porch.
The girl smiled.
"We're home."
Before she could knock...
The front door opened.
Emma froze.
The grocery bag slipped from her hands.
Apples rolled across the porch.
For several seconds...
Neither of them moved.
"I knew one day you'd find me," Emma whispered.
He could barely speak.
"They said you were dead."
Emma closed her eyes.
"My father made sure you believed that."
"What?"
"He blamed you for my accident."
"He wanted our baby to grow up without you."
"He paid doctors."
"He forged documents."
"He even held a private funeral with an empty coffin."
The groom stared in disbelief.
"Why didn't you come back?"
Emma looked toward her daughter.
"I lost my memory for months."
"When it returned, your father-in-law threatened to take our daughter away if I contacted you."
"He said you'd already remarried."
"I thought you'd finally found happiness."
The little girl quietly took both of their hands.
"I wished my parents could meet."
Neither adult could hold back their tears.
For the first time in six years...
They embraced.
May you like
Not as strangers.
But as a family that had been stolen from each other.
