Chapter 1: Blood Cannot Be Erased

"And you—"

Alejandro's voice echoed through the silent ballroom like the crack of thunder.

"...have spent years humiliating the last person carrying my family's blood."

No one dared move.

Valeria's confident smile vanished.

"This is impossible," she whispered. "That girl is nothing but an orphan."

Alejandro slowly opened the tiny seashell brooch.

Inside was a faded portrait of a little boy holding the hand of a laughing baby girl.

His own childhood photograph.

The baby wore the very same pearl necklace.

His hands began to tremble.

"Our parents had two children," he said quietly. "When the estate burned twenty-three years ago... everyone believed my baby sister died."

Lucia stared at the photograph with tear-filled eyes.

"My mother always told me never to sell the necklace... no matter how poor we became."

Alejandro looked into her face.

For the first time, he noticed the familiar green eyes.

The same gentle smile.

The same tiny birthmark behind her left ear.

His knees nearly gave out.

"You really are..."

He couldn't finish the sentence.

Instead, he stepped forward and wrapped Lucia in his arms.

The guests watched in stunned silence as the city's most powerful businessman broke down in tears.
