Chapter 2: Everything Hidden Comes to Light

Chapter 2: Everything Hidden Comes to Light

As officers escorted Julián into the living room, one investigator asked a simple question.

"Where is the safe?"

Julián looked confused.

"What safe?"

Ernesto answered instead.

"Behind the painting in the study."

Everyone turned.

Ofelia's face drained of color.

The investigator removed an enormous landscape painting.

Exactly where Ernesto said.

A hidden wall safe.

Julián shook his head.

"I don't know the combination."

Ofelia looked away.

The investigator smiled slightly.

"That's fine."

The forensic technician began documenting it while another officer requested a locksmith.

Twenty minutes later...

The safe clicked open.

Its contents shocked everyone.

Bundles of cash.

Luxury watches.

Passports.

A second flash drive.

A notebook.

The notebook appeared ordinary.

Until Ernesto opened it.

Every page contained dates.

Amounts.

Names.

Next to each was a handwritten note.

"Valeria's account."

"Transfer without permission."

"Mortgage."

"Sell after inheritance."

The final pages chilled the room.

"If Ernesto dies before changing the deed..."

Below that...

"The house becomes ours."

Valeria covered her mouth.

She finally understood.

The abuse had never been only about power.

It had been about money.

Everything.

Her marriage.

The insults.

The isolation.

Even the forced birthday party.

It had all been part of a plan to secure complete control of her father's property.

The investigator closed the notebook.

"This changes the entire case."

At that moment, another officer entered carrying several evidence bags.

"We also recovered deleted security footage."

Valeria frowned.

"Deleted?"

The officer nodded.

"They erased recordings from the last six months."

"But they missed the cloud backup."

The videos appeared on a laptop.

Guests watched in horror.

Julián slapping Valeria in the hallway.

Dragging her into the bedroom.

Destroying her phone.

Ofelia standing nearby.

Watching.

Never stopping him.

Sometimes...

Encouraging him.

One guest quietly whispered,

"We all believed their excuses."

May you like

Ernesto answered without looking away.

"That's how abuse survives."
