Chapter 2: The Daughter He Underestimated

Meanwhile...

Forty miles away...

Claire stepped into the Ashford Estate for the first time in ten years.

The massive wooden doors opened before she could knock.

Her father stood waiting.

William Ashford looked older than she remembered, but his eyes softened the moment he saw his daughter.

Without saying a word, he wrapped her in his arms.

For several seconds, neither of them spoke.

"I failed you," William finally whispered.

Claire shook her head.

"No."

She looked up.

"I was the one who believed love meant sacrificing myself."

William gently brushed the rain from her hair.

"I warned you Adrian loved your family name more than he loved you."

"I know."

She smiled sadly.

"I just needed to learn it myself."

Inside the study waited an entire legal team.

Every file carried Adrian's name.

For years William had honored one promise.

As long as Claire remained happy, he would never interfere.

But the moment Adrian threw his daughter into the rain...

That promise ended.

The investigation revealed everything.

Fake invoices.

Money laundering.

Hidden offshore accounts.

Forgery.

Even the transfer of Claire's inheritance had been built on forged signatures.

William closed the final folder.

"Prepare criminal charges."

One attorney hesitated.

"Sir...this could destroy him."

William answered calmly.

"He destroyed himself."

Across the city, police vehicles arrived outside the mansion.

Vanessa tried slipping out the back entrance wearing Claire's diamond necklace.

An officer stopped her.

"I'm going to need that necklace."

"It's mine!"

"No."

He opened a photograph.

"It belongs to Claire Ashford."

Vanessa's face turned white.

She slowly unclasped the necklace.
