Nathan Ashford barely had time to process the sound of the approaching helicopters before his phone vibrated relentlessly.
One notification.
Then another.
His smile slowly disappeared.
ACCOUNT FROZEN.
FEDERAL FINANCIAL CRIMES TASK FORCE.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS – EMERGENCY SESSION.
The confidence that had filled the room only seconds earlier began to crumble.
His mistress, Celeste, frowned as she glanced at his screen.
"What... what is happening?"
Nathan forced a laugh.
"Someone's trying to scare me."
But another message appeared.
Search warrants have been approved.
Outside, black SUVs rolled through the front gates of Ashford Estate.
Agents stepped out with badges displayed.
Law enforcement.
Financial investigators.
Federal prosecutors.
Nathan stared at Amelia.
"You did this?"
She slowly removed the sapphire pendant from around her neck.
"I didn't."
She pressed a button hidden beneath the silver clasp.
"The truth did."
A clear recording echoed through the room.
