Six months later, the courtroom was filled with reporters.
The prosecution played the security footage.
Again.
And again.
The jurors watched Adrian raise the glass.
Aim.
Strike.
There was no reasonable explanation.
Then Maya testified.
For four hours.
She exposed years of abuse.
Family intimidation.
Witness coaching.
Destroyed evidence.
Even Adrian's father eventually accepted a plea agreement after prosecutors uncovered financial crimes.
The Caldwell family empire crumbled one confession at a time.
When it was my turn to testify, Adrian refused to look at me.
The prosecutor asked one final question.
"What gave you the strength to call 911?"
I looked across the courtroom.
"I realized something that night."
"What was it?"
"Silence protects abusers."
The courtroom remained silent.
But this time...
It was a different kind of silence.
One built on truth.
The jury returned after only three hours.
"Guilty."
On every count.
Adrian lowered his head as the judge sentenced him to twelve years in state prison.
