The silence inside the executive boardroom felt heavier than the silence Lucas had left behind in the mansion.
Twenty-two directors sat around the polished walnut table.
Every seat was occupied.
Every file had already been reviewed.
Every vote had already been decided.
When Isabella entered, the entire room stood.
"Good evening, Ms. Bennett."
Not Mrs. Carter.
Not Isabella Carter.
Just the name she had been born with.
The name she had quietly hidden for three years.
Lucas burst through the doors seconds later, his tie crooked and his breathing uneven.
"You can't do this!" he shouted.
"I built this company!"

He opened a thick binder.

Lucas laughed nervously.
"That's impossible."
Isabella calmly slid another folder across the table.
Inside were every investment agreement.
Every emergency loan.
Every restructuring document.
Each one carried her signature.

Richard stormed into the room moments later.
"This is fraud!"
One attorney quietly pushed a document toward him.
"It was all filed legally."
Richard's hands shook as he recognized his own signature approving the final shareholder agreement years earlier.
He had never bothered reading the fine print.

It was the most expensive mistake of his life.
The chairman finally spoke.
"By unanimous vote..."
He looked directly at Lucas.
"You have been removed as Chief Executive Officer effective immediately."
Lucas's knees nearly gave out.
Security stepped beside him.
"Sir... we'll escort you out."
The same humiliation he had planned for Isabella had now become his own.
As the elevator doors closed behind him, Lucas looked back one last time.
