Chapter 1: The Truth No One Expected

Chapter 1: The Truth No One Expected

The restaurant fell into complete silence.

Every pair of eyes shifted from Sarah to the man standing beside her.

Sarah slowly looked up, her trembling hands clutching the expensive jacket around her shoulders.

"Daniel..." she whispered.

He gave her a reassuring nod.

"I'm here."

Lena frowned, refusing to believe what she had just heard.

"Wife?" she scoffed. "Stop lying. Mark told me she's been chasing him since they started working together."

Daniel's expression never changed.

"Then Mark forgot to mention one important detail."

He reached into his wallet and calmly placed a marriage certificate on the nearest table.

"Our marriage has been legally registered for four years."

Gasps spread across the restaurant.

Someone stepped closer.

Another customer whispered,

"So... she's really married?"

"And not to Mark?"

Mark's confident smile disappeared.

"That... that's fake."

Daniel pulled out his phone.

"Would you like to continue lying?"

He tapped the screen.

Seconds later, the restaurant's manager hurried over.

"Mr. Carter! We didn't know you were dining with us tonight."

Daniel nodded politely.

"I'll need access to your projector."

"Of course, sir."

Within moments, the large display usually reserved for private events lit up.

An image appeared.

Bank statements.

Dozens of transfers.

Every month.

Thousands of dollars.

The sender:

Sarah Williams.

The recipient:

Mark Thompson.

Another document followed.

Apartment rent.

Luxury car payments.

Vacation bookings.

Every expense had been paid by Sarah.

Daniel spoke calmly.

"For three years, my wife believed she was helping a friend who had fallen on hard times."

He paused.

"Instead, Mark convinced her to secretly support his 'business dream' while promising to repay every cent."

The next slide appeared.

Photos.

Mark kissing Lena.

Holding hands.

Vacationing together.

The dates matched the same months Sarah had been paying his bills.

Lena slowly turned toward Mark.

"You told me your company paid for those trips."

Mark swallowed.

"I..."

"You told me you bought that car!"

"I can explain."

Daniel looked directly at him.

"No."

"You've been explaining for three years."

"Tonight is simply the first time the truth is louder than your lies."

The restaurant erupted into whispers.

The word "homewrecker" disappeared.

It had found a new target.
