Lena's face turned pale.
She stared at the evidence flashing across the screen.
Then another notification appeared.
Daniel smiled slightly.
"One more thing."
He nodded toward the entrance.
Two accountants walked inside carrying several folders.
Behind them came two police officers.
Mark's breathing became uneven.
"What is this?"
Daniel answered quietly.
"The consequence of believing no one keeps records."
One accountant opened a folder.
"Mr. Thompson, over the past thirty-six months you received approximately four hundred and eighty thousand dollars from Mrs. Sarah Carter."
The entire restaurant gasped.
Sarah froze.
"I... I never realized it was that much."
Daniel gently squeezed her hand.
"You trusted people."
"That's never something to be ashamed of."
The accountant continued.
"In addition, we discovered multiple forged electronic signatures authorizing withdrawals from a joint investment account."
Sarah looked at Mark in disbelief.
"You forged my signature?"
Mark took a desperate step forward.
"Sarah... listen... I was going to pay everything back."
"You promised me we were building a future together."
Daniel answered before Sarah could.
"The only future you were building... was with Lena."
Lena's hands began shaking.
"You used my name too?"
Mark remained silent.
The police officer stepped forward.
"Mr. Thompson, we'd like you to come with us regarding allegations of fraud and financial forgery."
"No!"
Mark suddenly pointed at Lena.
"It was her idea!"
Lena's eyes widened.
"You liar!"
Within seconds they were blaming each other in front of everyone who had watched Sarah's humiliation only minutes before.
No one laughed anymore.
Several customers quietly lowered their phones.
One elderly woman approached Sarah with tears in her eyes.
"I'm so sorry."
"I believed them."
Sarah managed a small smile.
