CHAPTER 2: THE WOMAN WHO SHOULD NOT BE THERE

CHAPTER 2: THE WOMAN WHO SHOULD NOT BE THERE
Within minutes, the celebration transformed into controlled chaos.
Guests were quietly escorted out.
Phones were confiscated.
Security sealed every exit.
And the engagement that was meant to unite two powerful families was frozen in silence.
Cassandra tried to leave with them—but Adrian stopped her.
Just one word.
“Stay.”
It wasn’t loud.
But it carried enough authority that even the guards froze.
Elara stood behind Adrian now, gripping the edge of his jacket like she was afraid the world would swallow her again if she let go.
Adrian turned to her gently. “Where is your mother?”
The question broke something in her.
“She said… if anything happened, I had to come here,” Elara whispered. “She said someone would recognize the crest.”
“And your mother’s name?” he asked.
The girl hesitated again.
Then answered.
And the name she spoke made several elders in the room visibly recoil.
Because that name belonged to the one woman the Vale family had erased from every record.
The woman who had once been the true heir’s guardian.
The woman who vanished the same night Elara disappeared.
Adrian’s breathing slowed.
He turned toward Cassandra.
“You told everyone she was dead,” he said.
Cassandra’s voice sharpened. “Because she WAS—”
“No,” Adrian cut in. “You made that story.”
A silence fell so deep it felt like the building itself was holding its breath.
Then Adrian raised the silver crest.
And pressed a hidden mechanism on its edge.
A faint click echoed.
The crest split open.
Inside was a sealed micro-inscription chip—one that only direct heirs knew existed.
And it contained recordings.
Proof.
Truth.
Cassandra’s face drained of color.
“You didn’t,” she whispered.
May you like
Adrian’s eyes darkened.
“Oh, I did.”
