Chapter 1: The Glass That Never Broke

Chapter 1: The Glass That Never Broke

Silence swallowed the dining room.

The crystal glass spun across the polished oak table after Ava slapped it away. Red wine splashed across the white tablecloth like fresh blood.

Eleanor's smile disappeared.

"What did you just do?" she whispered.

Ava stood slowly.

"I said no."

Her voice was calm, but everyone at the table felt it.

Her husband, Daniel, frowned. "Ava, stop embarrassing Mother."

Ava looked directly at him.

"For ten years, I've obeyed every order in this house. I smiled when I was insulted. I stayed silent when I was blamed. I apologized for mistakes I never made."

She pointed at the untouched glass.

"But tonight... I won't drink it."

Eleanor's face turned pale.

"You know."

"I know enough."

The room exploded into arguments.

Daniel demanded answers.

His younger brother accused Ava of ruining the family dinner.

The servants quietly stepped back.

Only Eleanor remained perfectly still.

Because she knew exactly why Ava refused.
