How did she find us? I had thrown the GPS tracker into the woods over an hour ago.

My cell phone, I realized with sickening dread. Even without a signal earlier, the moment I hit a cell tower on the highway, they pinged my location using Taylor’s family plan tracking app. I had been so worried about the truck that I forgot the spy in my own pocket.

Evelyn didn't look angry. She looked calm. Bored, even. The two men behind her were large, heavy-set, with the unmistakable posture of private security or hired thugs.

Betty the waitress stepped out from behind the counter, a pot of coffee in her hand. "Can I help you folks?"

"We're just here to pick up my son-in-law and my granddaughter," Evelyn said smoothly, offering a polite, icy smile. "They had a little family dispute. Come along, Mark. It's time to go home."

I slid out of the booth, standing between Evelyn and Lily. I discreetly reached into my pocket, my fingers wrapping around the handle of my tactical pocket knife. It was a pathetic weapon against two large men, but I wasn't going to let them take my daughter.
