Chapter 3: The Woman Worth More Than Any Price

Chapter 3: The Woman Worth More Than Any Price

Six months later.

The courthouse steps were crowded with reporters.

Cameras flashed relentlessly.

Julian Whitmore emerged first.

Gone was the confident businessman.

Gone was the arrogant smile.

His company had collapsed.

Several board members had removed him from leadership.

The divorce settlement had exposed years of financial misconduct.

Now he looked older.

Smaller.

Defeated.

Then I walked outside.

The crowd immediately turned toward me.

Someone shouted a question.

“Mrs. Whitmore, how does it feel to finally be free?”

I paused.

Then smiled.

“Wonderful.”

Laughter erupted.

Not cruel laughter.

Joyful laughter.

The kind that comes after surviving something difficult.

Across the street stood Alexander.

Waiting.

Not as a rescuer.

Not as a hero.

Simply as a friend.

The person who had reminded me of my worth when I had forgotten it myself.

As reporters continued shouting questions, I looked back at the courthouse one final time.

Twenty-two years.

Gone.

But strangely, I felt lighter than I had in decades.

Because I finally understood something important.

My value had never depended on Julian.

Not on his approval.

Not on his attention.

Not on his love.

And certainly not on his ridiculous ten-dollar bid.

A woman is not worth what someone is willing to pay for her.

She is worth what she knows about herself.

I crossed the street.

Alexander smiled.

“Ready?”

I nodded.

“Ready.”

Together we walked toward the future.

Not because a millionaire had saved me.

But because the night my husband tried to sell me for ten dollars...

May you like

I finally stopped selling myself short.

The End.
