Chapter 2: The Truth in Her Blood

Chapter 2: The Truth in Her Blood

The emergency room exploded into motion.

“Blood pressure dropping!” a nurse shouted.

“Temperature 40.2!” another called.

Michael rushed in, snapping on gloves, taking over instinctively.

The little girl lay motionless on the table, her tiny chest rising in fragile, uneven patterns.

But something about her—

Something familiar.

Her fingers.

Her eyes.

A scar-like birthmark near her wrist.

Michael froze mid-movement.

He had seen that mark before.

In a photo he had never been able to throw away.

His throat tightened.

“Run a DNA panel,” he ordered sharply.

A nurse hesitated. “Doctor—there’s no time—”

“I said RUN IT.”

His voice cracked through the room like thunder.

They moved.

Seconds felt like hours.

The old man stood behind the glass, pressing both hands against it, whispering prayers that had no words.

Michael kept working—oxygen, IV fluids, medication—his hands steady, but his mind breaking apart.

Because deep down…

He already knew.

The truth didn’t need confirmation.

It needed courage.

Finally, the lab tech burst through the doors.

“Doctor—results are ready.”

Michael took the folder.

His hands trembled for the first time in years.

He opened it.

And stopped breathing.

99.99% match.

His knees nearly gave out.

The room tilted.

The old man closed his eyes outside the glass.

And whispered,

“I told you…”

Michael looked back at the child.

His daughter.

Alive.

After six years of being told she wasn’t.

And in that moment—

The hospital alarms faded.

The world disappeared.

Only one thought remained.

Who buried the truth?
