Later that night, after most of the guests had gone home, the wedding reception finally became quiet.
Emma sat with her father on a bench overlooking the garden.
The fairy lights sparkled around them.
"Daddy?" she asked softly.
"Yes, sweetheart?"
"Do you still love me now that you married Sophie?"
The question caught him completely off guard.
He immediately knelt in front of her.
"Emma, listen to me."
Her little eyes filled with uncertainty.
"There is absolutely nothing in this world that could ever make me stop loving you."
"Not even marriage?"
"Not even marriage."
Emma looked down at her shoes.
"But Sophie loves you too."
"She does."
"And you love her."
"I do."
Emma sighed dramatically.
This was obviously complicated.
Then her father smiled.
"You know what the best part is?"
"What?"
"Sophie loves you too."
Emma looked surprised.
"Really?"
"More than you know."
At that exact moment, Sophie stepped into the garden.
Without saying a word, she sat beside Emma and wrapped a blanket around her shoulders.
The little girl leaned against her.
For the first time all day, she didn't seem jealous.
