CHAPTER 2: THE CHALLENGE

CHAPTER 2: THE CHALLENGE
An hour later, disaster struck.
The guest pianist scheduled for the evening called with an emergency.
He wasn't coming.
Panic swept through the restaurant.
Guests were already expecting a live performance.
Richard looked ready to explode.
Then Maya stepped forward.
"I can play."
The room fell silent.
Richard stared at her.
"You?"
"I know the pieces."
Several employees exchanged amused glances.
One waiter whispered, "This should be interesting."
Richard smirked.
"Fine."
The manager crossed his arms.
"Go ahead."
Maya walked toward the piano.
Every eye followed her.
The wealthy guests looked confused.
A waitress?
At the piano?
She sat down slowly.
Placed her fingers on the keys.
Closed her eyes.
And began.
The first notes floated gently through the restaurant.
Conversation stopped.
Forks froze halfway to mouths.
The room became silent.
Then Maya's hands exploded across the keyboard.
Elegant.
Powerful.
Flawless.
The music filled every corner of the building.
Years of hidden talent poured into every note.
Some guests stared in disbelief.
Others slowly rose from their seats.
One elderly man near the front wiped away tears.
A famous music producer sitting at Table Seven leaned forward.
His eyes widened.
By the time Maya finished the final movement, the entire restaurant was standing.
The applause was thunderous.
Richard Bennett looked as if he had seen a ghost.

The waitress he had mocked moments earlier had just delivered the greatest performance LeBlanc & Co. had ever witnessed.
And the night wasn't over.
