CHAPTER 3: THE REGRET

CHAPTER 3: THE REGRET
The standing ovation lasted nearly two minutes.
Then a voice called out from the crowd.
"Miss Carter."
Maya turned.
The music producer approached the piano.
"My name is Daniel Hayes."
The room immediately recognized him.
He had discovered some of the biggest classical talents in America.
Daniel smiled.
"Where have you been hiding?"
Maya laughed nervously.
"Working here."
The producer shook his head.
"No."
He pointed toward the piano.
"That talent doesn't belong behind serving trays."
The room erupted into applause again.
Daniel reached into his pocket and handed Maya a business card.
"I'd like to offer you an audition next week."
Maya stared at the card.
Her hands trembled.
For years she had believed her dream was over.
For years she had convinced herself that life had moved on without her.
But suddenly, the door she thought had closed forever stood open once more.
Richard slowly approached.
For the first time since Maya had known him, he looked embarrassed.
"I owe you an apology."
The entire staff watched.
"I judged you without knowing your story."
Maya looked at him quietly.
Richard lowered his head.
"I was wrong."
Maya smiled.
Not because she wanted revenge.
Not because she wanted to humiliate him the way he had humiliated her.
But because she finally understood something important.
Success isn't proving others wrong.
It's proving to yourself that you never stopped believing.
Six months later, Maya performed at a sold-out concert hall in New York.
The audience rose to their feet.
Among them sat former coworkers from LeBlanc & Co.
Even Richard.
When the final note echoed through the theater, tears filled Maya's eyes.
Years earlier she had carried plates through crowded dining rooms while people ignored her existence.
Now thousands listened.
Not because she had changed.
But because she had finally allowed the world to see who she truly was.
And as the applause thundered around her, Maya smiled.
Her dream had never died.
May you like
It had simply been waiting for the right moment to play again.
