Chapter 1: The Glass That Changed Everything

Chapter 1: The Glass That Changed Everything
The crystal glass shattered across the marble floor.
Silence swallowed the dining room.
Every servant froze where they stood.
The lady of the house, Eleanor Ashford, stared at her trembling maid.
"What are you doing, Sophie?"
Before Sophie could answer, Richard Ashford—Eleanor's husband of twenty-five years—slammed his hand onto the table.
"She's gone mad!" he shouted. "Fire her immediately!"
But Sophie didn't move.
Her eyes never left Richard.
"I'm sorry, Madam," she whispered. "I know you'll hate me for this... but I saw him put something into your juice."
The room exploded with disbelief.
Richard laughed.
"A ridiculous accusation from a servant? Have you all lost your minds?"
The family doctor, who had just arrived for dinner, frowned.
"If there's any doubt," he said calmly, "let's test the drink."
Richard's confident smile disappeared for the first time that evening.
"No need," he replied quickly. "She's obviously lying."
"Then you won't mind if we send the broken glass to the laboratory."
Richard suddenly stood up.
He knocked over his chair and stormed toward the door.
Two security guards blocked his path.
The laboratory results arrived before sunrise.
The juice contained a powerful cardiac drug—harmless in tiny doses, but deadly for someone with Eleanor's heart condition.
Every person in the mansion was speechless.
The husband who had spent years pretending to protect his wife had nearly murdered her in her own home.
