Chapter 2: The Secret No One Knew

Chapter 2: The Secret No One Knew
Police arrested Richard that afternoon.
But before he was taken away, he looked directly at Sophie and smiled.
"You think you've won?"
Sophie felt a chill run through her body.
"There are things about this family you don't know."
Those words haunted Eleanor all night.
The next morning, Eleanor asked Sophie to sit with her in the library.
"You risked your life to save mine," Eleanor said softly. "Why?"
Sophie lowered her eyes.
"Because someone once saved my mother's life."
She carefully placed an old photograph on the table.
Eleanor gasped.
The woman in the picture looked exactly like the young nurse who had cared for her after a terrible car accident thirty years earlier.
"My mother worked for your family," Sophie explained. "She never forgot your kindness. Before she died, she made me promise that if I ever had the chance... I would protect you."
Tears filled Eleanor's eyes.
"I never knew she had a daughter."
"There was one more thing," Sophie whispered.
"My mother believed your first husband didn't die naturally."
Eleanor's heart nearly stopped.
"My... first husband?"
Sophie nodded.
"She kept evidence."
From her bag, she pulled out a sealed envelope that had remained hidden for three decades.
Inside were medical records...
bank transfers...
