The millionaire came home for Christmas and found his little daughters eating moldy bread while his new wife danced downstairs covered in diamonds.

“If they’re hungry, they should learn how to look pretty while suffering!”

Those were the first words Alejandro Santillán heard as he stepped through the side entrance of his mansion in Las Lomas on Christmas Eve—the night he had dreamed of reuniting with his children.

He had just returned from Monterrey, exhausted, still wearing a rain-soaked suit jacket, carrying four bags full of gifts. For six months, he had been away building new offices, closing deals, and convincing himself that every sacrifice was for his daughters: Valeria, Camila, Regina, and Sofía—his five-year-old quadruplets.

But the house didn’t smell like Christmas.

It smelled like expensive liquor.

Music thundered through the walls. Strangers filled the living room, dancing on furniture and spilling drinks over imported rugs.

In the middle of the chaos stood Jimena, his new wife, laughing as she danced on top of the dining table, wearing a diamond necklace he didn’t even remember buying.

Then Alejandro turned his gaze toward the hallway that led to his daughters’ rooms.

It was dark.

Too dark.

A cold dread tightened in his chest.

He left the party behind and pushed open the door to the family dining room.

And everything inside shattered him.

His daughters were seated quietly at the far end of the table, dressed in thin nightgowns. Their small bare feet were tinged purple from the cold.

There was no Christmas dinner.

No turkey.

No hot chocolate.

No gifts.

Only a plastic plate holding pieces of stale bread—some of them covered in green mold.

Valeria quickly tried to hide the plate when she saw him.

Camila began to cry.

Regina lowered her head.

Sofía crawled under the table in fear.

Alejandro dropped the gifts to the floor.

“My babies…” he whispered.

Valeria looked up at him, terrified.

“We’re sorry, Daddy. We weren’t going to eat much.”

Those words nearly destroyed him.

He dropped to his knees beside them.

“Who gave you this?” he asked.

The girls exchanged uneasy glances.

Finally, Valeria spoke.

“Mom Jimena said we’re getting chubby… She said pretty girls don’t need a lot of food.”

Rage ignited inside Alejandro like wildfire.

“Are you hungry?” he asked softly.

The girls looked at one another, as if telling the truth might get them punished.

“Yes,” Regina whispered. “But we can wait until tomorrow.”

In that moment, Alejandro realized something horrifying.

His daughters weren’t just hungry.

They were afraid to admit they were hungry.

And that was only the beginning.

Because before the night was over, he would discover where all the money he sent every month had gone.

And why Jimena had worked so hard to keep him away from his children.

The truth hidden inside that mansion was far darker than moldy bread.

And it would change all of their lives forever.
