CHAPTER 2: THE SAFE ROOM

CHAPTER 2: THE SAFE ROOM

The next morning, Alejandro didn’t sleep.

He sat in his office with every account frozen.

Every card blocked.

Every asset secured.

But that wasn’t what mattered anymore.

What mattered was the sound of tiny footsteps outside his door.

“Daddy?” Camila’s voice.

He opened it immediately.

All four girls stood there.

Still in their nightgowns.

Still afraid.

But this time… they weren’t alone.

He knelt down. “Come here.”

They ran into his arms all at once.

And for the first time that night, he felt something break inside him—not from rage, but from clarity.

He had built an empire.

But failed to protect the only thing that mattered.

Later that day, Alejandro took them to a private wing of the mansion.

Not the dining room.

Not the hall of guests.

A place Jimena rarely entered.

A safe room.

Warm blankets.

Fresh food.

A Christmas tree already being decorated by silent staff he personally called in.

Valeria looked around in disbelief.

“Is this… for us?”

Alejandro nodded. “Only for you.”

Sofía whispered, “Are we in trouble?”

That question destroyed him more than anything else.

He shook his head slowly.

“No, my love. You were never the problem.”

That evening, Jimena was escorted out of the house by security.

She didn’t scream.

She didn’t cry.

She only said one thing before leaving:

“You think you’ve won?”

Alejandro didn’t look at her.

May you like

He was holding Sofía’s hand.

“I didn’t win,” he said. “I just woke up.”
