Chapter 1: The Truth Behind the Empire

Chapter 1: The Truth Behind the Empire

"Just a what?" Elena asked.

Her voice never rose, yet every word landed like a judge's verdict.

Veronica swallowed.

"A... housewife."

A faint smile crossed Elena's lips.

"That's what Damian always wanted everyone to believe."

The executive closed the portfolio and looked directly at the board members gathering around the conference room.

"For twelve years, Ms. Elena Voss deliberately remained anonymous. Every investment made through Voss Global Holdings was structured under independent subsidiaries. Mr. Damian Bennett was never the owner."

He paused.

"He was merely the public face."

The room exploded into whispers.

Damian slammed both hands against the conference table.

"That's a lie!"

The executive calmly handed copies of the documents to every director.

"Original incorporation papers."

"International banking records."

"Shareholder certificates."

"Each bearing Ms. Voss's signature."

One by one, the directors examined the files.

Their expressions changed from skepticism...

...to disbelief...

...to horror.

Director Harris slowly removed his glasses.

"Damian..."

His voice trembled.

"You told us these companies belonged to your family."

"They do!" Damian shouted.

"They were mine after we got married!"

Elena quietly laughed.

"There's a difference between managing someone's wealth..."

"...and owning it."

Damian's breathing became uneven.

For years he had believed Elena was simply a quiet wife who stayed out of business.

He never bothered asking where the money actually came from.

Because it always appeared whenever he needed it.

Every expansion.

Every bailout.

Every risky acquisition.

Whenever his company approached bankruptcy...

...Elena silently transferred more capital.

Without asking for recognition.

Without asking for repayment.

Until today.

She looked around the room.

"I didn't build an empire because I needed applause."

"I built it because I believed in family."

Her eyes finally rested on Damian.

"I simply chose the wrong person to trust."

Silence followed.

Even Veronica no longer dared to stand beside him.
