Chapter 2: Everything Falls Apart

Chapter 2: Everything Falls Apart
Within an hour, emergency meetings were underway.
Lawyers filled the executive floor.
Financial auditors arrived carrying sealed cases.
Damian watched helplessly as the corporate structure he believed he controlled unraveled before his eyes.
One document after another confirmed the same reality.
The intellectual property belonged to Elena.
The investment funds belonged to Elena.
Even the headquarters building had been purchased years earlier through a Voss subsidiary.
The company wasn't being taken away from Damian.
It had never belonged to him.
Veronica grabbed Damian's arm.
"Tell them they're wrong."
He couldn't.
Because every signature...
...was his.
He had signed every agreement without reading the ownership clauses.
Confident.
Arrogant.
Certain that Elena would never question him.
Now those same signatures became the chains locking him out.
Security quietly approached.
"Mr. Bennett."
Damian glared.
"What?"
"Your executive access has been revoked."
"You can't be serious."
"I'm afraid those instructions came from the majority shareholder."
The elevator behind him chimed.
His executive access card flashed red.
Denied.
For the first time in fifteen years...
Damian wasn't allowed into his own office.
Veronica looked around desperately.
"What about me?"
Human Resources answered politely.
"Your consulting agreement was approved personally by Mr. Bennett."
They slid another document across the table.
"Since Mr. Bennett no longer possesses hiring authority..."
"...your contract is terminated effective immediately."
Her expensive smile disappeared.
"So that's it?"
Elena looked at her calmly.
"You weren't dismissed because you loved the wrong man."
May you like
"You were dismissed because you knowingly helped someone betray the person who trusted him most."
Neither Damian nor Veronica had another word to say.
