Chapter 2: The Truth Beneath the Silver Dress

Chapter 2: The Truth Beneath the Silver Dress

The mansion belonged to him.

Everyone knew that.

But very few knew what had been buried under its polished floors.

The man at the doorway stepped forward slowly. His expression was calm, but his eyes betrayed tension.

“Mother,” he said carefully. “You shouldn’t be here tonight.”

The old woman didn’t look at him.

Her eyes stayed on the child.

“You told me she died,” she said, voice low and shaking. “You told me my granddaughter died the night my daughter was taken away from me.”

Silence fell like a dropped blade.

The little girl shifted behind the man’s leg now, suddenly afraid.

The man exhaled sharply. “That was a long time ago. Things were… complicated.”

“Complicated?” Her voice rose, breaking. “You erased her. You erased both of them.”

The old woman took another step forward, her hands trembling violently now.

“Where is my daughter?”

A pause.

Too long.

Then—

“She left,” he said. “She chose to leave the life we gave her.”

A bitter laugh escaped the old woman. “You mean the life you stole from her?”

The little girl looked up at him. “Daddy…?”

That word landed differently.

The old woman froze.

Her gaze snapped between them.

Slowly, painfully, pieces began to align—like shattered glass forming a mirror.

The man wasn’t just her son.

He was the one who had controlled everything.

The one who had lied.

The one who had kept a child hidden behind marble walls and silence.

“You raised her here…” the old woman whispered, horror rising in her chest. “You raised my granddaughter in this house… and told me she was dead.”

For the first time, the man looked away.

And that was answer enough.
