Chapter 2: A Betrayal Behind Closed Doors

Daniel ordered every employee to remain on the property.

Phones were collected.

No one was allowed to leave.

Detectives questioned every servant, every driver, every gardener.

Nothing.

No one admitted seeing anyone near Emily.

That evening, Emily quietly walked into the nursery.

Tiny clothes hung neatly inside the closet.

A white crib waited beside the window.

She gently rubbed her belly.

"I'll protect you," she whispered.

A soft knock interrupted her.

It was Sophia.

Daniel's younger sister.

She carried a cup of warm tea.

"You've been through so much," Sophia said softly.

Emily smiled.

Sophia had always been kind.

Always supportive.

But as Sophia turned to leave, something caught Emily's eye.

A scratch.

Fresh.

Running down Sophia's wrist.

Exactly where the security video had shown the attacker's bracelet catching against the wooden railing.

Emily's heartbeat quickened.

Hours later, investigators enhanced the footage.

The image remained blurry.

But one detail became perfectly clear.

A silver bracelet with a tiny sapphire charm.

Sophia froze when detectives placed the screenshot in front of her.

"It isn't what you think," she whispered.

Tears filled her eyes.

"I only wanted to scare her."

Daniel looked at his sister as though he had never known her.

"You pushed my wife."

Sophia broke down.

"I never meant for her to fall."

But someone else standing in the room quietly lowered their head.

The family attorney.

Because he knew Sophia wasn't telling the whole truth.
