Chapter 1 – A Mother's Fury

The scream cut through the grand ballroom like shattered glass.

Every conversation stopped.

Crystal chandeliers reflected the frozen expressions of senators, CEOs, judges, and socialites who had gathered for the prestigious Hartwell Children's Foundation Charity Gala.

Six-year-old Sophie Bennett stood in tears as Vivian Ashcroft—the matriarch of one of the oldest and wealthiest families in New York—tightened her grip on the child's tiny wrist.

"I told you," Vivian said coldly. "Children like you don't belong here."

Sophie's pink dress was wrinkled from being dragged across the polished marble floor.

Across the ballroom, Emily Bennett dropped the champagne flute in her hand.

It exploded against the floor.

"SOPHIE!"

She ran.

People instinctively stepped aside.

Emily reached her daughter, pulled Sophie into her arms, and carefully examined the red marks already forming around her wrist.

"Sweetheart... Mommy's here."

Sophie buried her face into her mother's shoulder.

"She called me street trash... She said Daddy lied about loving us..."

Emily slowly stood.

She looked directly into Vivian's eyes.

"You touched my daughter."

Vivian laughed.

"I merely removed unwanted guests."

"You should be thanking me."

Emily's voice became frighteningly calm.

"My daughter was invited."

Vivian smiled with absolute confidence.

"By whom? The catering company?"

Several guests chuckled nervously.

Emily simply reached into her purse and pressed one button on her phone.

"I think this evening is about to become very interesting."

Within seconds, dozens of security personnel entered the ballroom—not to escort Emily out, but to surround the exits.

The guests exchanged confused looks.

Vivian frowned for the first time.

"What are you doing?"

Emily answered quietly.

May you like

"Making sure no one leaves."

The ballroom suddenly felt much smaller.
