Chapter 1: The Poisoned Truth

Chapter 1: The Poisoned Truth

The kitchen fell into a terrifying silence.

The wife stared at her husband.

Every instinct inside her screamed to grab her child and run.

But she couldn't move.

Not yet.

His words echoed through her mind.

You were always too trusting.

The maid remained on the floor, trembling.

The older woman sobbed uncontrollably beside the doorway.

Only the husband seemed calm.

Far too calm.

The wife slowly picked up her sleeping baby from the crib.

She held him tightly against her chest.

"Tell me the truth," she demanded.

The husband laughed softly.

Not because anything was funny.

Because he no longer cared about hiding.

"For years," he said, "you believed this family accepted you."

His eyes darkened.

"They never did."

The mother-in-law covered her mouth.

"Stop..." she whispered.

But he ignored her.

"When you inherited your father's fortune, everything changed."

The wife felt her stomach twist.

The inheritance.

The billion-dollar trust fund that legally belonged to her and would one day belong to her son.

"You wanted my money."

The husband smiled.

"I wanted everything."

The room spun around her.

Every anniversary.

Every promise.

Every kiss.

A lie.

Then the mother-in-law suddenly dropped to her knees.

"No!"

Tears streamed down her face.

"I never knew he planned this."

Everyone froze.

The husband turned slowly toward her.

His expression changed.

For the first time, uncertainty appeared in his eyes.

The older woman pointed directly at him.

"He told me the milk would only make the baby sick."

The wife gasped.

"What?"

The old woman collapsed into tears.

"He said it would frighten you. He said you would leave and sign over control of the trust fund before the divorce."

The husband clenched his fists.

But the old woman wasn't finished.

"He lied to me."

She pointed at the poisoned milk.

"He wanted the baby dead."

The words exploded through the room like a bomb.

The maid began crying.

The wife nearly dropped to her knees.

And for the first time, the husband stopped smiling.
