Chapter 2: The Monster Unmasked
Police arrived less than twenty minutes later.
The mansion was locked down.
No one was allowed to leave.
Detectives collected samples from the poisoned milk.
Hours later, the laboratory results came back.
The substance was lethal.
A few ounces would have killed the child.
The husband was immediately taken into custody.
But even then, he refused to confess.
Until the maid stepped forward.
Everyone watched in shock as she handed detectives a small flash drive.
"I recorded him."
The husband went pale.
The recording began playing.
His voice filled the room.
Cold.
Calculating.
Emotionless.
"The baby dies first."
The officers exchanged looks.
The wife felt her legs weaken.
The recording continued.
"Once the child is gone, she will fall apart. Then I'll control everything."
The room erupted.
The husband lunged toward the maid.
Officers tackled him to the ground.
He screamed.
He cursed.
He blamed everyone except himself.
But the evidence was overwhelming.
The police led him away in handcuffs.
As he disappeared through the front doors, he turned toward his wife one last time.
Hatred burned in his eyes.
"You'll regret this."
The wife stared back.
For the first time in years, she wasn't afraid.
"No," she said quietly.
"You will."
