CHAPTER 3 — THE CHOICE OF TRUTH

Gunfire erupted upstairs.

Chaos.

Marcus’s men shouted.

Evelyn’s forces responded instantly.

The church became a battlefield.

But in the center of it all—

Silence remained around the family.

Eliza stepped forward.

“No more games.”

Marcus looked at her calmly.

“This isn’t a game. It’s inheritance.”

Damian suddenly moved—fast.

He grabbed Marcus by the collar and slammed him against the stone pillar.

The gun fell.

For the first time, Marcus’s composure cracked slightly.

Damian growled, “End it.”

Marcus, pinned, smiled anyway.

“You still don’t understand. I never needed to win.”

Damian tightened his grip.

“Then what did you need?”

Marcus’s eyes shifted toward Oliver.

“Time.”

A sudden sharp sound echoed.

A second child appeared at the top of the stairs behind Marcus.

Older.

About six or seven.

Same eyes.

Same expression.

Gabriel.

He stared down at Oliver.

Oliver stared back.

Eliza stepped in front of her son instinctively.

Gabriel whispered faintly:

“…why do I look like him?”

The question shattered something invisible in the room.

Marcus spoke softly.

“Because you were both built from the same truth.”

Damian slowly released Marcus.

Arthur closed his eyes.

Evelyn lowered her weapon completely.

Eliza looked between the two boys.

And finally understood what Marcus had built.

Not a lie.

A mirror.

A test.

A weapon made of identity itself.

Eliza knelt between Oliver and Gabriel.

“No,” she said firmly. “You are not experiments. You are not tools. You are children.”

Marcus stepped back, adjusting his collar.

“And now you choose,” he said. “Break them apart… or let them destroy each other.”

Eliza looked at Damian.

Then Arthur.

Then Evelyn.

Then both boys.

And she made her decision.

She stood.

“No one is destroying anyone.”

She turned toward the flash drive.

Then crushed it under her heel.

A sharp crack echoed.

Marcus went still.

Damian stared.

Arthur exhaled sharply.

Evelyn whispered, “Eliza…”

Eliza looked at Marcus.

“You built your empire on files.”

She stepped forward.

“I just ended it with one.”

Marcus stared at her for a long moment.

Then, unexpectedly…

he smiled.

“Good,” he said quietly. “Then they finally get to choose who they are.”

And for the first time, he didn’t fight back.

He simply turned.

And walked away into the smoke of collapsing power.

EPILOGUE — WHAT SURVIVES THE TRUTH

Weeks later, the Vale network collapsed overnight.

Records restored themselves in fragments.

Some children were returned to original identities.

Some stayed where they were.

No one could fully undo what had been done.

But in a quiet house far from the city…

Oliver and Gabriel sat side by side.

No longer enemies.

Not yet brothers.

Just two children trying to understand a world that had lied about their beginnings.

Damian stood at the window.

Eliza watched him.

Arthur had vanished again.

Evelyn had rebuilt what remained.

Damian finally spoke.

“Do you think they’ll be okay?”

Eliza looked at the boys.

“They won’t be okay because of the truth,” she said.

A pause.

“They’ll be okay despite it.”

Outside, the world kept moving.

And for the first time in a long time…

May you like

it didn’t feel like it was lying anymore.

THE END.
