Chapter 3: The Hospital and the Interrogation

At the sprawling metropolitan hospital across town, the fluorescent lights of the trauma bay buzzed with an angry, electric hum. Bridget lay completely motionless on the freezing steel table, a maze of IV lines snaking into her pale arms. The elite orthopedic surgical team worked frantically, barking out rapid-fire medical shorthand as they reviewed the incoming MRI scans. Their somber, drawn expressions quickly confirmed Sarah’s absolute worst, unspoken fears: Bridget had suffered a severe, complex, and potentially permanent severing of her L1 and L2 vertebrae. The spinal cord was catastrophically compromised.

Meanwhile, back at the downtown police precinct, Tyler sat remarkably still in a sterile, windowless interrogation room. The air was stale, smelling faintly of bleach and old coffee. He took a slow, calculated sip from a Styrofoam cup of tepid water.

"I tried to grab her hand, Detective. I swear to God I did. She was leaning over the railing to wave at the band, and she just... slipped," he lied smoothly. His voice cracked with pitch-perfect manufactured grief as perfectly formed crocodile tears pooled in his bloodshot eyes and rolled down his cheeks.

But Detective Hayes, watching him from across the scratched metal table, was already three steps ahead of the grieving husband act. Before leaving the estate, Hayes had legally seized Tyler’s unlocked smartphone directly from the crime scene, utilizing an exigent circumstances loophole when he noticed Tyler attempting to delete an application.

Down in the precinct's sub-basement cyber-lab, forensics techs were digging deep into a hidden, cloud-encrypted folder of recently deleted files. They didn't find a tragic suicide note, a hidden manifesto, or evidence of a physical affair; they found a highly optimized, meticulously crafted content schedule. It was a thirteen-second short-form video script. The document explicitly demanded a rigidly strict pacing structure. And the chilling opening line of the draft—the explosive, carefully workshopped hook designed specifically to stop viewers from scrolling past—was exactly the phrase Bridget had screamed in sheer terror before plummeting into the darkness: He pushed me!
