Detectives searched every phone, computer, and cloud account belonging to Reena.
What they uncovered shocked even veteran investigators.
Thousands of text messages.
Most were exchanged with her boyfriend, Kyle.
One message read:
"Lock them downstairs tonight. They cry less after the first few hours."
Another said:
"Don't waste groceries on them. They're not worth it."
Peter had to stop reading.
Then came the financial records.
After Aaron died, Reena had collected a substantial life insurance payment.
She also received monthly survivor benefits intended for Drew and Lily.
Nearly every dollar had been spent on vacations, luxury handbags, cosmetic procedures, and gambling trips.
Almost nothing had gone toward the children.
When detectives arrested Reena, she showed no emotion.
She only asked one question.
