Chapter 4: Aaron's Letter

Chapter 4: Aaron's Letter
Several months later, Peter cleaned out Aaron's old storage unit.
Inside an unopened toolbox sat a sealed envelope.
On the front were four words.
For Peter—Just In Case.
His hands trembled.
Inside was a handwritten letter.
"Little brother,"
"If you're reading this, then life surprised both of us."
"You know how much I love Drew and Lily."
"If anything ever happens to me, promise me one thing."
"Teach them that kindness isn't weakness."
"Teach Drew how to throw a baseball."
"Tell Lily she has her mother's smile, even if she forgets."
"Most importantly..."
"Make sure they always know they were loved."
Peter couldn't hold back the tears.
Aaron had trusted the future to him.
He only wished he had arrived sooner.
That evening Peter framed the letter.
It hung in the hallway where Drew and Lily could see it every day.
