CHAPTER 3: THE FALL OF SOPHIE

Sophie arrived twenty minutes later, breathless and pale.

She rushed into the boardroom expecting control.

Instead, she found silence.

And Lucas sitting down like a man who had lost gravity.

“Tell me this is a joke,” she said.

No one answered.

Her eyes found me.

“You did this,” she hissed. “You planned all of it.”

I tilted my head slightly.

“No,” I said. “You helped reveal it.”

Her hand instinctively moved to her stomach.

For the first time, her confidence cracked.

Lucas didn’t even look at her.

That hurt her more than anything I could have said.

“I’m carrying your child,” she whispered.

Lucas laughed once.

But it was empty.

“And I just lost everything,” he replied.

The room didn’t move.

Didn’t breathe.
