Later that night, I stood alone in Lucas’s former office.

The word felt clean.
City lights reflected across the glass walls he used to admire like they belonged to him.
Daniel entered quietly.
“Legal transfer is complete,” he said. “All assets have been reassigned under your family’s holding group.”
I nodded.
“And Lucas?”
“He’s been removed from all executive systems. Security escorted him out of the building.”
A pause.
“He kept asking for you.”
I turned slightly.
“And?”
Daniel hesitated.
“You didn’t go.”
No.
I didn’t.
Because some endings don’t need witnesses.
I walked to the desk and picked up a framed photo.
Our wedding day.
Smiling faces.
False beginnings.
I placed it face down.
“Send him the final notice,” I said.
Daniel nodded.
