Chapter 1: The Lies Collapse

Chapter 1: The Lies Collapse
Daniel's voice echoed through the study.
"What did you do to my wife?"
Margaret straightened her jacket as though nothing had happened.
"Daniel, thank goodness you're here. Ava has become confused. The medication is part of her treatment. Rosa attacked me for no reason."
"No!"
Rosa wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth.
"She's lying."
Daniel ignored them both.
He walked directly toward Ava.
Carefully, he knelt beside her on the hardwood floor.
His hands trembled as he noticed the purple fingerprints circling her wrists.
Bruises.
Fresh ones.
"Ava..."
Tears rolled silently down her face.
"I tried to call you," she whispered. "She took my phone. She told everyone I wasn't mentally stable. She said she was protecting the family."
Daniel's face drained of color.
He looked toward the trust documents scattered across the room.
Every page transferred complete financial authority to Margaret.
Everything.
The company.
Their home.
Even medical decisions.
"They wanted me to sign before sending me away forever."
Margaret laughed nervously.
"You don't understand legal language."
"I understand fraud."
Daniel reached beneath the desk and picked up the tiny white pill Rosa had knocked away.
"Why wasn't this prescribed by Ava's doctor?"
Margaret froze.
For the first time in years...
She had no answer.
Daniel slowly stood.
Then he pulled out his phone.
"I'm calling the police."
Margaret lunged toward him.
"You wouldn't send your own mother to prison!"
May you like
Daniel looked at her with tears in his eyes.
"You stopped being my mother the moment you decided my wife was disposable."
