The room fell into a suffocating silence after the doctor’s words.
The man—Daniel—stood frozen near the examination bed, his breath uneven, eyes locked on his wife, Claire, who sat quietly with trembling hands.
“I asked you a simple question,” Daniel said hoarsely. “Whose child is it?”
The doctor stepped between them, his voice calm but firm.
“No, Mr. Daniel. You asked the wrong question from the beginning.”
Daniel scoffed bitterly. “Don’t lecture me. Just tell me the truth.”
The doctor picked up the file from the counter and turned it toward him.
“Your wife is five months pregnant,” he said. “But she has not been unfaithful.”
Daniel’s jaw tightened. “That’s impossible.”
Claire finally spoke, her voice breaking.
“I told you… but you never listened.”
The doctor exhaled slowly, as if preparing for something heavier.
“Your wife has a rare medical condition. A condition that causes hormonal spikes resembling pregnancy symptoms long before conception fully stabilizes. She came to this clinic three months ago—for treatment and monitoring.”
Daniel blinked. “So… she wasn’t even sure she was pregnant?”
“No,” the doctor said. “But she is now. And the father is you.”
The words hit like a physical blow.
