Chapter 4 – The Woman Who Finally Saw Herself

Chapter 4 – The Woman Who Finally Saw Herself
Months passed.
Matthew grew stronger every day.
He was finally breathing without assistance.
One afternoon, Leticia quietly appeared outside the NICU.
She looked smaller somehow.
Older.
She held no expensive purse.
No jewelry.
Only a folded letter.
Valeria almost walked away.
But Leticia stopped her.
"I don't expect forgiveness."
Her voice trembled.
"I attacked you."
"I humiliated you."
"I blamed you for everything."
She lowered her head.
"The truth is..."
"I spent my whole life believing blood made someone worthy."
"I was wrong."
She handed Valeria the letter.
Inside was a formal apology.
Not only to her.
But also to every nurse and doctor she had insulted.
"I've already signed over part of my inheritance to Matthew's medical trust."
"It's the least I can do."
Valeria looked at her for a long moment.
"You can't erase what happened."
"I know."
"But maybe..."
"You can spend the rest of your life becoming someone Matthew won't be afraid to call Grandma."
For the first time in decades...
Leticia cried.
May you like
Not out of anger.
But out of shame.
