The following weekend Daniel rented a small apartment across town.
It wasn't luxurious.
The furniture was simple.
The kitchen was tiny.
But when Lily stepped inside, she smiled for the first time in months.
"It feels peaceful."
Daniel nodded.
"Peace is worth more than a bigger house."
His mother begged him to reconsider.
"You would leave your own family?"
Daniel answered gently.
"I am choosing my family."
He placed his hand on Lily's stomach.
"My wife."
"Our daughter."
"And the life we're building together."
The door closed quietly behind them.
For the first time, silence felt comforting instead of painful.
Three weeks later, Lily gave birth to a healthy baby girl.
Daniel never left her side.
When the nurse placed the baby into Lily's arms, she whispered,
"No one will ever make her feel unwanted."
