CHAPTER 1: AFTER THE SILENCE

CHAPTER 1: AFTER THE SILENCE

The moment I walked out of that ballroom, the night air hit me like a wake-up call.

Cold. Sharp. Real.

Behind me, the hotel doors closed with a soft click that felt louder than the entire wedding had been.

No one followed me immediately.

Not my husband.

Not his friends.

Not even my own relatives who had just watched everything fall apart.

I stood on the curb in a ruined wedding dress—white fabric stained with buttercream, hair matted with frosting, makeup long gone.

A passing car slowed down.

Then sped away.

I let out a shaky breath I didn’t realize I was holding.

For a second, I almost broke.

Almost went back.

Almost convinced myself it was “just a mistake.”

Then my phone rang.

My maid of honor.

Her voice was trembling.

“You need to leave. Now. His friends are saying you embarrassed him in front of everyone. They’re angry.”

I stared at the glowing hotel windows.

Angry.

Not at what he did.

But at what I said.

That was when I understood something clearly.

That wedding hadn’t just ended a marriage.

May you like

It had revealed who would stand against me—and who would stay silent.

I turned away and kept walking.
