CHAPTER 2: THE RECEIPTS

CHAPTER 2: THE RECEIPTS

By morning, the story had already changed.

Online posts appeared.

A blurred video of me leaving the ballroom.

Captioned:

“Bride ruins wedding after groom jokes around.”

Comments flooded in.

“She’s overreacting.”

“It was just a prank.”

“He dodged a bullet.”

But what they didn’t see… was what I had.

Because while everyone laughed at the cake, I had quietly noticed something long before that moment.

The drinking wasn’t new.

The disrespect wasn’t new.

I had just ignored it.

That night, sitting in a cheap hotel room with frosting still in my hair, I opened my phone.

And started scrolling.

Messages.

Old ones.

Screenshots I had saved but never wanted to look at too closely.

The first time he called me “too sensitive.”

The time he shoved me playfully in front of his friends and I almost fell.

The apology that always came after laughter.

Then disappeared again.

I created a folder.

I named it one word:

Truth

And I sent it to a lawyer.

Not for revenge.

May you like

For clarity.

Because I was done being told I was “overreacting.”
