Chapter 2: The Husband Who Chose the Wrong Side

Chapter 2: The Husband Who Chose the Wrong Side

At that exact moment, my husband, Daniel Langford, rushed into the ballroom.

He had just returned from an overseas business trip.

"What happened?"

His eyes immediately found our daughter, still crying in my arms.

Then he noticed the wine stains covering her white dress.

His face darkened.

"Emily?"

"Daddy..."

She reached toward him.

Daniel carefully took her into his arms.

"Who did this?"

Helen stepped forward.

"It was just discipline."

Daniel slowly turned toward his mother.

"You pushed her?"

Helen scoffed.

"She embarrassed the family."

"Our family?" Daniel repeated.

"She spilled wine."

"So you threw more wine on a five-year-old?"

Helen hesitated.

"It was necessary."

The crack of Daniel's slap echoed throughout the ballroom.

No one expected it.

Not even me.

Helen stumbled backward, clutching her cheek.

"You don't touch my daughter."

His voice shook with barely controlled rage.

"You don't insult my wife."

"And from this moment forward..."

He removed the Langford family ring from his finger and dropped it onto the marble floor.

"...you are no longer part of my family."

Helen stared at him in disbelief.

"You would choose her over your own mother?"

May you like

Daniel answered without hesitation.

"I choose the people who never abused a child."
