Chapter 15 - The Son Melissa RaisedCallan gave a second sworn statement.

This time, he did not protect his mother.

He admitted Melissa brought him the property agreement three days before our wedding.

She said her attorney had prepared it.

She told him I already understood the terms.

Callan signed the transfer documents without asking me.

He never watched me sign anything.

He never confirmed my consent.

He simply trusted Melissa.

Again.

“What did you receive from the transaction?” Evelyn asked.

Callan answered quietly.

“Additional voting shares.”

“How much were they worth?”

His attorney objected.

Eventually, Callan answered.

Millions.

My stomach turned.

He had gained millions through paperwork carrying my false signature.

Maybe he had not personally forged it.

But he had benefited because he never considered my consent important enough to verify.

Callan also admitted something else.

On our wedding night, Melissa complained that I was becoming “too comfortable.”

She told him marriage did not mean I was entitled to challenge Brooklyn.

Then came the bracelet.

Callan knew Brooklyn had taken it.

Not immediately.

But the next morning.

Brooklyn had joked about it during breakfast.

“And what did you do?” Evelyn asked.

Callan stared at the table.

“Nothing.”

“Why?”

“I didn’t want another fight.”

I almost smiled at the absurdity.

He avoided fights by allowing everyone else to hurt me.

Evelyn asked one final question.

“Mr. Harrington, do you believe your wife caused the breakdown of this marriage?”

Callan’s eyes moved toward me.

“No.”

“Who did?”

His voice became almost inaudible.

“I did.”

For months, I had wanted those words.

Now they gave me nothing.

Afterward, Callan waited in the hallway while our lawyers spoke.

He could not approach because of the protective order.

But as I passed, he said softly.

“I loved you.”

I stopped.

Evelyn looked at me.

I chose to answer.

“I think you did.”

His eyes filled with hope.

Then I continued.

“But you loved being your mother’s son more than you loved being my husband.”

His face fell.

I walked away.

That afternoon, prosecutors announced charges against Melissa related to evidence tampering, attempted witness influence, and other conduct arising from the investigation.

Additional allegations remained under review.

Brooklyn accepted responsibility for making a false statement and agreed to cooperate.

Callan faced investigation for the slap and the property documentation.

The Harrington family released a statement calling the situation “a painful private dispute.”

I read it once.

Then deleted it.

Nothing about my arrest had been private when Melissa wanted me destroyed.

Now that the evidence had turned against her, privacy had suddenly become sacred.

But there was one final fight coming.

Melissa was challenging the authenticity of the camera files.

She claimed they had been altered.

And if she convinced even one person to believe that, she hoped everything else would collapse.
