Chapter 15 - The Unfinished Business.A week later, the city was still reeling from the explosive downfall of the Whitmore empire.

Andrew was officially denied bail, locked in a cold concrete cell while awaiting a highly publicized federal trial.

Brenda had completely vanished into the criminal underworld, likely fleeing the country on a stolen passport.

I sat in my fully restored penthouse, staring out at the glittering skyline that now belonged entirely to me.

I held a glass of expensive bourbon, the liquid catching the ambient light of the city below.

I had won the war, destroyed my enemies, and secured my family's legacy.

Yet, a strange, lingering tension knotted itself tightly at the base of my neck.

My encrypted phone vibrated on the glass coffee table, breaking the absolute silence of the room.

It was a secure video call from an unidentified, highly encrypted global network.

I pressed the accept button, and the massive flat-screen television on my wall flickered to life.

The face that appeared on the screen made my blood run instantly cold.

It was Margaret, Andrew's elitist, arrogant mother.

But she was not sitting in a police interrogation room, nor was she crying over her ruined son.

She was sitting in an opulent, dimly lit boardroom, surrounded by men wearing sharp suits and dark sunglasses.

"Did you honestly believe it would be this easy, Mariana?" Margaret asked, her voice dripping with venom.

"You destroyed my son, but Andrew was always the weakest link in our family's true enterprise."

I stepped closer to the screen, my eyes rapidly scanning the background for any identifying markers.

"You have no money, Margaret, I froze every single account tied to the Whitmore name," I stated firmly.

Margaret smiled, a terrifying, predatory grin that sent a shiver down my spine.

"You froze the public accounts, you foolish girl," Margaret laughed mockingly.

"While you were busy playing war games with Hector Navarro, I unlocked my late husband's shadow syndicate."

One of the men behind her stepped forward, and I instantly recognized him.

It was my father's chief cybersecurity engineer, the man I had trusted to protect my offshore vaults.

"We didn't need the money in your bank accounts, Mariana," the engineer said coldly.

"We just needed the encrypted access codes you used to stop the transfer."

The realization hit me like a physical blow to the chest.

The entire heist, the bomb, the cartel war—it was all a massive, orchestrated distraction engineered by Margaret.

"Check your family's primary offshore holding, little dragon," Margaret taunted me, her eyes flashing with pure malice.

I grabbed my tablet off the desk, my fingers flying across the digital keypad to access the master vault.

The screen loaded for three agonizing seconds before displaying a single, terrifying word.

Empty.

"I am coming for everything, Mariana," Margaret whispered through the screen.

The feed suddenly cut to black, leaving me staring at my own pale reflection in the glass.

The real war hadn't just ended.

It had only just begun.
