Chapter 1 – The Morning the Empire Collapsed

Chapter 1 – The Morning the Empire Collapsed
Sunrise had barely painted the skyline when panic erupted inside Whitmore Global.
Executives who had arrived early discovered something impossible.
Every corporate account had been frozen.
Lines of credit were suspended.
Investment partners refused to answer calls.
Within minutes, emergency meetings filled the executive floor.
Andrew stormed into the boardroom.
"What is going on?"
The chief financial officer stood pale as paper.
"Sir... every lender has withdrawn support."
"That's impossible."
"Our largest shareholders have transferred their voting rights overnight."
Andrew slammed both hands on the table.
"Who approved this?"
Nobody answered.
Then the company's general counsel entered with a sealed envelope.
"It came directly from Escalante Holdings."
Andrew frowned.
He ripped it open.
Inside was only one sentence.
The financial guarantees supporting Whitmore Global have officially been revoked.
Signed,
Mariana Escalante
His heartbeat stopped.
"No..."
His mind raced.
The emergency loans...
The confidential guarantees...
The anonymous investors...
Every deal that had saved his company over the past four years...
All carried the same hidden signature.
Mariana.
Back at the mansion, Margaret was still celebrating.
Brenda was already measuring the master bedroom for renovations.
Then the televisions suddenly interrupted every channel.
Breaking News.
"Whitmore Global shares have fallen 47% in the opening hour."
"The market attributes the collapse to the withdrawal of financial backing from Escalante Holdings."
Brenda slowly lowered her coffee.
Margaret dropped her teacup.
Andrew stared at the screen.
The news anchor continued.
"Sources confirm that Mariana Escalante is the only daughter of billionaire Alejandro Escalante, founder of the world's largest private investment consortium."

Silence.
The mansion suddenly felt much colder.
